Apple has released iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2, alongside matching updates for the Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro and HomePod, in the first major software refresh for its current operating systems. The headline change is to Siri AI, which can now remember past conversations, draw on more of your personal context and speak five more languages.

The updates were released on Monday 26 October 2026. Apple describes Siri AI as a more capable, conversational and personal version of Siri, and it remains in beta even in these public releases.

Siri AI can now remember what it told you

The most useful change is conversation recall. Siri AI can now remember previous conversations, so you can ask it about something it told you before — for example, a restaurant it recommended last week — instead of starting from scratch each time.

It can also draw on a wider range of personal context to answer. According to Apple’s release notes, that now includes photos attached in Messages, attendees on Calendar invites, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and the Reading List. The idea is that you should be able to ask for something without remembering exactly where it was stored.

There are two new controls with that wider access. An Excluded Apps setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions may access, all from one place. Granular text selection lets you select and copy just part of a Siri response, rather than the whole answer.

Five new languages — and what is not included yet

Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, joining English. That is the first major international rollout for the redesigned assistant, and it applies across iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 on supported devices.

Four more languages are planned by the end of 2026 — Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese — but they are not part of this release, so users waiting for those languages will need a later update.

There are limits worth knowing before you update. Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible device set to a supported language. On iPhones, the Siri AI features are available on all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple’s release notes also state that Siri AI is not available in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and some features may not be available in every region or language.

What else is in the 27.2 updates

Beyond Siri, the updates add Suggestions in Messages, which suggest actions based on the context of a conversation — for example, adding a Calendar invite for a dinner mentioned in a chat. In Photos, Shared Albums now let you edit captions and comments, avoid adding duplicate photos, and warn before an album expires so participants can save its contents.

Apple has also added support for Google’s SynthID watermarking tool, which identifies images created or modified with generative AI in Photos or Image Playground. The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, gains Apple Pencil support and Edge Light, a macOS feature that creates an on-screen ring light for video calls. The Apple TV app also gains multiview for selected sports events included in an Apple TV subscription.

On the Mac, macOS 27.2 — codenamed Golden Gate — brings the same Siri AI conversation recall and Suggestions in Messages, plus bug fixes and security updates. Devices that are not moving to the 27 branch get parallel updates, including macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.2.

More than 160 security fixes — update promptly

Security is the other reason not to delay. MacRumors reports that iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 fix more than 160 security vulnerabilities, with an independent count of Apple’s notes putting the iOS 27.2 figure at 163 unique CVE identifiers.

The fixes include an Apple Intelligence vulnerability that could have let a remote attacker access sensitive data, a Hide My Email bug that could have leaked a user’s real email address, more than 30 WebKit fixes and around 15 kernel fixes. Apple has not said any of the flaws were actively exploited, but with the details now published, unpatched devices are the ones at risk.

To install the update on an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. On a Mac, use System Settings and then General and Software Update.

Why this update matters

This is a consolidation release rather than a redesign: it makes the Siri AI that arrived with the current operating systems more useful day to day, by remembering context and working in more of the world’s major languages, while closing a large batch of security holes at the same time. For owners of supported devices, the language expansion and conversation memory are the changes most likely to be noticed — and the security fixes are the reason to install it sooner rather than later.

That timing also matters for Apple watchers: the company has already confirmed its “Pro and Tell” event for 28 October, where a touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected.
