Meta has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence coding startup whose software lets developers run several AI coding agents at the same time, as the race for AI talent and developer tools heats up.
The deal was first reported by Axios on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, and confirmed by Conductor founder and chief executive Charlie Holtz, who announced that the startup is joining Meta. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to share further details, and the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

What Conductor does
Conductor, founded in 2024 in San Francisco, built a Mac app that lets a developer deploy a team of coding agents into parallel workspaces, so different agents can work on separate, compartmentalised parts of a project at the same time. Its core product launched in the summer of 2025.
Notably, Conductor does not build its own coding models. The agents its platform runs come from major AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI, through tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode. The appeal, in other words, is the orchestration layer: one interface for assigning, watching and merging the work of several agents.

The startup came through Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 batch and raised a $22 million Series A round in March 2026 from Spark Capital and Matrix.
Where the team is going
Holtz said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. The Conductor team will join Superintelligence Labs, the unit Meta set up to pursue its most advanced AI work.
The move fits a wider pattern: rather than only building bigger models, the biggest AI companies are buying the tools and teams that shape how developers actually use AI day to day. The same day Meta’s deal emerged, OpenAI said it would acquire Pierre Computer Company, a developer-tools startup whose technology is already embedded in its Codex coding product.
What happens to Conductor users
The acquisition comes with a shutdown timetable that existing users need to act on. New sign-ups and app downloads stopped with the announcement on 4 November. Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on 13 November, meaning users can read old chats and export data but cannot send new messages. The cloud service shuts down on 20 November, after which the company will begin deleting cloud user data — so users should export anything they need before then.
The local Mac app will keep receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it too will begin winding down. Holtz said the team has plans for a new interface and hopes to have something new for users early in 2027, though no product has been announced.
Why it matters
For Meta, Conductor is a talent and product play: a small team with a reputation for fast product development and a strong focus on developer experience, joining the unit building its next generation of AI coding products. For developers, it is a reminder of how fast this market is consolidating — a tool launched barely a year ago is already being absorbed, and its users have just weeks to move their cloud work elsewhere.
What remains unanswered is how much of Conductor’s approach to coordinating several agents will carry into Meta’s own products. That will be the real test of whether this deal was about a product, a team, or both.
