OpenAI has automatically enabled creative enhancements for ChatGPT Ads, a change that lets its system rewrite, translate and redirect adverts without the advertiser approving each new version. OpenAI’s help page currently says the switch-on applies to new and existing campaigns from Friday, 30 October 2026.

The move matters because it changes the default: unless an advertiser has opted out, enhanced versions of their ads can now run automatically. OpenAI says the aim is to make ads more relevant to the conversation and the user’s interests, while reducing the work of creating multiple versions.
What creative enhancements can change
According to OpenAI’s help page, enhancements use the existing ad and its landing-page content, together with the context of the conversation or the user’s interests. They can:
- create new or updated headlines and descriptions;
- translate ad text into another language;
- resize images to fit the ad format; and
- optimise the destination URL, sending the click to what the system judges a more relevant page on the advertiser’s own website.
Variations may be prepared in advance or created in real time based on the conversation. OpenAI states clearly: “When enabled, these ads can run automatically without requiring you to review or approve each version.” It also says the experience does not provide a preview of every variation.
The date confusion advertisers should note
The timing has been reported inconsistently. OpenAI emailed advertisers on 20 October 2026 about the change, and trade coverage at the time cited different dates. OpenAI’s help page has at different points been reported as saying 29, 30 and 31 October. The version checked for this article says: “Starting Friday, October 30, 2026, creative enhancements will be enabled automatically for new and existing campaigns.” Advertisers should therefore check the current setting in Ads Manager rather than relying on an earlier date.
How to opt out
Advertisers can change the setting at any time in Ads Manager by selecting Manage settings. OpenAI says existing account- and campaign-level opt-outs are preserved, and that campaign-specific settings take priority over the account default. That means an advertiser can keep the feature off overall but switch it on for a single low-risk campaign to test it, or vice versa.
OpenAI also advises advertisers to keep ads and landing pages current — including prices, promotions, product details and availability — so enhancements draw on accurate source information, and to make sure creative and landing pages comply with its Ads Policies.

What has not changed
OpenAI says ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers, and that ads are separate and clearly labelled. Ads Manager reporting still shows delivery and results at campaign, ad group and ad level, including impressions, clicks, spend and click-through rate. OpenAI cautions that changes over time do not, on their own, establish the effect of creative enhancements.
What remains unanswered is performance: trade reports note no published data separating the results of enhanced versions from original ads. Advertisers in regulated sectors, or with strict offer, pricing or translation rules, face the sharpest risk, because a rewritten headline, a translated claim or a different landing page could change what a customer is promised.
What to check before leaving it on
First, confirm the account and campaign settings in Ads Manager. Second, check which landing pages the system could choose, and that conversion tracking covers them. Third, review copy rules for prices, claims and languages you do not want translated automatically. If any of those checks fail, opt out at account level and test on one campaign later.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to approve each enhanced version? No. OpenAI says enhanced creatives can run automatically when the feature is enabled, and there is no preview of every variation.
Can I turn it off? Yes, at any time in Ads Manager under Manage settings. Previous opt-outs are preserved, and campaign settings override the account default.
Do ChatGPT Ads change ChatGPT’s answers? No, according to OpenAI. Ads are separate and clearly labelled.
