Western Sydney Wanderers beat Canberra United 2-0 at McKellar Park on Sunday, 1 November 2026, with Milly Bennett and Elexa Bahr scoring in the first half of the Ninja A-League Women match. The result gave the Wanderers back-to-back wins and continued their revival, while Canberra were left still searching for a way back after falling behind early.

How the match was won

The Wanderers took advantage of poor defending from United in the opening stages. Allyssa Ng-Saad latched onto a cross, found space to turn, and set up Milly Bennett for the opening goal. Western Sydney then doubled the lead when Bennett turned provider for Elexa Bahr to score in the 19th minute.

Canberra, led by Michelle Heyman, could not find a way back into the game after the two early setbacks. The visitors’ control of the first half proved decisive, and the second half did not change the shape of the result.

Why the result matters

Back-to-back wins are a useful marker for a team described by the A-Leagues as continuing its revival. Winning away at McKellar Park, rather than relying on a home result, also gives the Wanderers a result they can build on as the season develops. For Canberra, the defeat underlines the cost of a slow start: once two goals down early, the home side had a long route back against an opponent growing in confidence.

What is still unknown

What this result does not yet settle is whether the Wanderers can turn two wins into a sustained run. League position moves quickly in a short season, and the next round will be a better test of consistency. Canberra, meanwhile, will need to address the early defensive lapses that left them chasing the game from the start.
