Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in the Vienna Open final on Sunday, 1 November, to win his first title in the Austrian capital and the 28th trophy of his career.
The 23-year-old Spaniard, the second seed at the ATP 500 event, produced a dominant display at the Wiener Stadthalle, completing a perfect week in which he did not drop a set in any of his five matches.

How Alcaraz won the final
Alcaraz seized control from the opening game, breaking de Minaur’s serve immediately and quickly moving into a double-break lead. He raced through the first set 6-1 in 37 minutes, converting three of his four break points.
De Minaur, the fifth seed, held firm for longer in the second set and reached deuce in six of his nine service games, but Alcaraz broke four times in all and sealed the title on his first match point at 5-4, finishing with a forehand winner after a drop shot and a lob. The match lasted 97 minutes.
It was Alcaraz’s seventh win in seven meetings with de Minaur, and his third final victory over the Australian, after Queen’s in 2023 and Rotterdam in 2025.
A perfect week at ATP 500 level
The Vienna title was Alcaraz’s fourth of 2026, after the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo, and it extended his winning streak at ATP 500 level to 26 matches. He finished the season with a 16-0 record at ATP 500 events in 2026.
Alcaraz, who missed almost five months earlier in the season with a wrist injury, has now won two tournaments since returning in September. He had already qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin, and he now heads to next week’s Paris Masters.
He is only the third Spaniard to win the Vienna tournament, after Feliciano Lopez in 2004 and David Ferrer in 2015. On his only previous appearance in Vienna, in 2021, he lost to Alexander Zverev in the first round.

What it means for de Minaur
For de Minaur, the defeat was his third in a final this year and left him at 11-12 in ATP Tour finals. The 27-year-old Australian had reached the Vienna final by beating top seed Alexander Zverev, who goes top of the world rankings on Monday, in Saturday’s semi-final.
Alcaraz had beaten Daniil Medvedev in the other semi-final, while de Minaur’s win over Zverev ended the German’s hopes of a Vienna title.
De Minaur, the first Australian to reach the Vienna final, now turns his attention to Paris as he continues his push to qualify for the ATP Finals for a third consecutive year.
Why it matters
The result underlines how quickly Alcaraz has returned to his best after his injury layoff. Winning an indoor title without dropping a set, against a top-10 opponent in the final, is a strong signal heading into the closing weeks of the season, when the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals will shape the year-end picture.
